Are You Living With An Abundance Or Poverty Mindset?
Welcome to the Proverbs and Pens blog, where we encourage and uplift you to live the victorious Christian life through wisdom in Scripture. This month, we wanted to talk all about how God is an Overflowing God! Today, we're diving into the 2nd blog about blessings in Christ Jesus. Sometimes, without even realizing it, we can slip into a mindset of lack… thinking “just enough” is what God has for us, or wondering if He will come through. But the truth is, God never designed us to live from a place of scarcity. He calls us to live from the truth that we are already provided for in Him.
God is overflowing with goodness
God is not a “barely enough” God, He is a more than enough, overflowing, cup running over kind of God. Psalm 23:5 (NKJV) says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies… my cup runs over.” That is His nature. He doesn’t just meet needs, He exceeds them.
We see this all throughout Scripture. God made Abraham exceedingly fruitful and multiplied him beyond what he could have imagined (Genesis 17:6, ESV). He provided for Israel in the wilderness daily, never letting them go without (Exodus 16). And in the New Testament, Jesus continued to reveal this same heart, feeding thousands with more left over than what they started with (Matthew 14:20, ESV).
Jesus even said in John 10:10 (AMP), “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” This is the life God desires for His people; not just surviving, but living in the overflow of His goodness.
We Now Walk in These Promises Through Christ
Those promises were not just for people in the old testament or just for people in scripture. They are promises that are for you, today.
Through Jesus, we have been brought into the family of God. We are no longer separated from Him. We've been adopted, grafted in, and given full access to everything that belongs to Him. “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise” (Galatians 3:29, ESV). That means the same God who blessed Abraham is the same God who blesses you.
Even more, we are now joint heirs with Christ. Romans 8:17 (NKJV) says, “and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.” Jesus doesn’t hold back from us, He lovingly shares His inheritance with us.
Ephesians 1:3 (ESV) reminds us, “He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” Not will bless… has blessed. Right now, in Christ, you have access to every heavenly resource you need.
Living this out starts with a mindset shift
If we want to walk in this truth, it starts with how we think. We have to begin to see ourselves the way God sees us. We are not lacking, not striving, but already provided for through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) says, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Notice, it’s according to His riches, not ours. This isn’t about what we’ve earned. It’s about what Jesus already finished on the cross.
Jesus didn’t just save you from sin (which is the best thing), He also brought you into a life of blessing, provision, and relationship with the Father. But to experience that, we have to align our thoughts and words with the truth of the Word. Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
The world calls it “manifesting,” but what we’re really called to do is meditate on God’s Word and write it on our hearts (Joshua 1:8, ESV). As we do that, it begins to shape how we think, speak, and live.
God wants to bless you! But, it's not just for you, it’s also so you can be a blessing to others. “You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way” (2 Corinthians 9:11, ESV). His desire is for your life to overflow.
Here’s the key: knowing the truth and having revelation are not the same thing. You can hear it, agree with it, and still not walk in it. That’s why it’s so important to apply it.
Start small. Ask the Lord to help you renew your mind. Speak His promises over your life, even if you don’t fully believe them yet. Stay consistent. As you do, you’ll begin to see a shift inwardly and then outwardly.
Let this be your reminder as you go through the week:
You are not lacking. You are not forgotten.
You are a child of an abundant God.
Let’s start living like it!
